Tattoo Client Policy

Effective date: June 27, 2026

This Tattoo Client Policy explains the basic booking, safety, consultation, and client expectations for tattoo work with The BlackSmith.

Artist And Service

The BlackSmith is a tattoo artist brand currently positioned as a single tattoo artist, not a tattoo shop.

Tattoo work may be available in Los Angeles, Hollywood-area contexts, guest spots, travel appointments, private projects, or other approved locations.

Inquiries

To request a consultation or session, send the general idea and any relevant context. A full tattoo intake may include:

  • Concept or subject
  • Approximate size
  • General placement
  • Black and grey, blackwork, color, or other style direction
  • Reference images
  • Timing or travel context

Some details may be requested after the first inquiry instead of through a public website or ad form.

Appointment Confirmation

An inquiry is not a confirmed appointment.

An appointment is confirmed only when The BlackSmith confirms the date, time, location, session type, and any required deposit or payment step.

Age And ID

Clients must provide valid government-issued identification and meet all age requirements under applicable law and The BlackSmith policy.

For California tattoo services, clients should expect an 18+ requirement.

Health And Safety

Tattooing involves skin, needles, ink, healing, and aftercare. Clients may be asked to complete consent and health/safety screening before a tattoo appointment.

Do not submit detailed health information through a general website form. Health and safety disclosures should be handled during the booking-screening or consent stage.

The BlackSmith may refuse or reschedule service if a client:

  • Cannot provide valid ID
  • Does not meet legal age requirements
  • Appears intoxicated or unable to consent
  • Is unsafe to tattoo at the appointment time
  • Does not follow preparation or safety instructions
  • Acts abusively, threateningly, or disrespectfully
  • Requests work that cannot legally or safely be performed

Preparation And Aftercare

Clients are responsible for following any preparation and aftercare instructions provided by The BlackSmith.

Healing results vary. Placement, skin, sun exposure, friction, exercise, water exposure, aftercare, health, and lifestyle can affect the final result.

Pricing And Deposits

Pricing depends on concept, size, placement, detail, color, time required, and travel where applicable.

If a deposit is required, The BlackSmith should provide the deposit amount and the cancellation, rescheduling, and refund terms before payment.

Travel Work

Travel appointments are subject to schedule, city, venue, legal requirements, artist availability, and project fit.

Travel availability does not guarantee that a specific city, date, or project can be accepted.

Reference Images And Art Direction

Reference images are used to understand the idea, not to copy another artist's tattoo exactly.

The BlackSmith may interpret, redraw, adapt, or decline a reference depending on style, originality, placement, scale, and project fit.

Photos And Portfolio Use

The BlackSmith may request permission to photograph finished work, healed work, or process content for portfolio, website, social, and advertising use.

Private client images should not be used publicly without consent or another approved public-use basis.

If you have a privacy concern about a photo, contact The BlackSmith directly.

Conduct

Clients are expected to communicate respectfully, arrive prepared, follow safety instructions, and respect the artist's workspace, schedule, and boundaries.

The BlackSmith may end communication, decline a project, cancel a consultation, or stop service when conduct is unsafe, abusive, discriminatory, threatening, or otherwise inappropriate.
